One defendant alleged that she’d asked not to go through with the shoot at all, but the company threatened to withhold her hotel reservation and plane ticket home, knowing she couldn’t afford to pay for them herself. Registrants have recently reported receiving calls from a person claiming to be with law enforcement. The caller requests cash or other form of payment, and suggests the victim will face arrest for not complying with registration requirements. Please be advised that no law enforcement or government agency will ever request such payment, nor make threats of arrest by phone. Anyone receiving such a call should not make any payment or provide any information to the caller.
- Nearly two dozen women won $12.7 million in a fraud lawsuit against the owners and operators of a San Diego-based pornographic website, GirlsDoPorn, a Superior Court judge ruled Thursday.
- Prosecutors have alleged that Pratt and those who worked for him recruited young women online as models, but when the women arrived in San Diego, they were pressured to have sex on camera.
- WIRED is not naming the deepfake abuse website due to its role in spreading abusive content or the celebrities featured in the videos.
- It appears that a startup’s face-swapping tool may have been abused to transform the videos into deepfakes, according to watermarks on the footage.
- It was also believed that Andre Garcia might have been a previously-unknown individual named “Jonathan,” who the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) had been attempting to identify and locate for over a year.
- Tracking down the videos and demanding they be removed from countless sites across the internet is still an ordeal, but by holding the copyrights, these women will now be able to send cease and desist orders as opposed to simply asking and sometimes being ignored by these sites.

That suit caught the attention of prosecutors when it went to trial in 2019, touching off the criminal investigation. Five years after he fled the country and minutes before his former right-hand man was sentenced in federal court, authorities announced that the alleged mastermind behind the GirlsDoPorn sex-trafficking ring had touched down in San Diego in federal custody. When 22 women sued independent label Girls Do Porn in June for allegedly manipulating them into performing sex acts for a global audience, it wasn’t enough for giant adult video site Pornhub to stop promoting Girls Do Porn as an official “Content Partner” and profiting from the arrangement. SAN DIEGO – Matthew Isaac Wolfe was sentenced in federal court today to 14 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy with Michael Pratt, owner of the website… SAN DIEGO – Deondre Demetris Porter of Victorville, California was sentenced in federal court to 10 years in prison for sex trafficking a 16-year-old girl who was physically assaulted and… SAN DIEGO – David Warren of Las Vegas was sentenced in federal court today to 10 years in prison for coercing three women to engage in prostitution and transporting them…
- Victims who consumed alcohol or smoked marijuana were directed to make a recorded statement saying that they were not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, even though they had just smoked marijuana or drank alcohol.
- Pornhub’s purge of millions of videos, presumably including many of the videos in which the plaintiffs appeared, was announced on December 14.
- “The FBI is still in the process of identifying all the women recruited, filmed, coerced and defrauded by this conspiracy, as well as the proceeds made from these activities.”
- Once the videos were posted online many victims contacted Garcia and his co-conspirators seeking to get their videos taken off the websites.
More on Sex and Relationships
Pratt and his co-defendants allegedly paid other women to pose as “reference women” to falsely assure the victims that their videos would not be uploaded to the internet. The women alleged that Montreal-based MindGeek owns and operates a multitude of pornographic sites that have hosted videos featuring the women, and maintained its business relationship with GirlsDoPorn even as the site came under scrutiny for allegations of videos made through coercion and fraud. Over the past year, the GirlsDoPorn website – as well as its affiliates, MomPov and GirlsDoToys – have been permanently shuttered. The same goes for all of its fake modeling websites, such as BeginModeling.com, which were used to trick women into thinking they were a legitimate company.
In trial, defense attorneys argued that the women were over 18, understood what they were doing, accepted payment and in some cases returned to San Diego again and again to make more videos. The plaintiffs’ attorneys said the videos were not immediately posted on the internet and defendants later refused requests to take down the films. How could millennial women, living in an age where porn is almost exclusively viewed online, ever believe their own videos would never be posted on the Internet? To start, it takes a thought-out criminal scheme where the perpetrators were dedicated to leaving no paper trail. But GirlsDoPorn’s successful manipulation was possible because large swaths of society still label women who participate in sex work as cultural pariahs. The GirlsDoPorn operators knew this, and they wagered the Does’ shame over appearing in porn would likely ensure these victims would not take the site’s management to task for this fraud.
On Tuesday, Pratt pleaded not guilty to charges including sex trafficking, production of child pornography and sex trafficking of a minor. Most of the video shoots took place in San Diego – at local hotels and short-term rental units. Although the women were promised that the video shoots would be brief, they often took hours. Pratt, who was the owner of the website GirlsDoPorn, was charged in October 2019 in the Southern District of California with sex trafficking crimes in connection with a scheme to deceive and coerce young women to appear in pornographic videos.
